Cultural Differences

Introduction to Cultural Differences / Stereotyping

Everyone is unique. People differ in many ways. Some of these differences are due to their personality, how they were raised, what they were taught, but mostly due to their cultures. Knowledge of cultural customs can help avoid misunderstandings. To say, “they do this” and “they believe that” is stereotypical. Instead of just assuming why someone is doing something a specific way or what they are like, people need to generalize the reasons behind the behavior. People should be more open towards interacting with others who come from different cultures. They can learn about the other person’s culture in order to understand their behavior, the way they dress, their reactions, and some of their body language and gestures.

Cultural Differences And How It Can Contribute To Society

Cultural difference is something that can be found across the world. Everyday, there are people who are treated differently because of their gender, race, and culture. Culture is what shapes us for who we are, and it also helps share our language, beliefs, and our values. Cultural diversity is an aspect that’s important to everyone. It is important because our country, workplaces, racial, and ethnic groups involve culture.

In everyday life, we learn from each other and strive to understand each other. Educating ourselves about other cultures helps us understand different perspectives within the world. If we understand diversity, we cancultural-differences1 eliminate stereotypes and bias opinions of other ethnic groups and their culture. If we are capable of this, we would be able to respect others and their ways of doing things without having the need to judge people. If we are able to interact with each other without judging others, we will be able to build trust between each other and respect different cultures in order to understand them.

So, if we were to make a more diverse society, it would make everyone capable of living a a more calm and peaceful life where they can be who they are and not be judged. Establishing diverse ideals would be a major leap for society to accept. It would contribute better communication, new ways of thinking, increased knowledge, and different experiences. It would be best if we just tried to make a difference, even if it is a little bit at a time.

For example some cultures are loud, direct, and blunt while others may be soft-spoken, or use indirect language and let someone finish what they were going to say. During a business meeting these differences will be present. There are also cultural differences in time. There are plenty of other resources that would be helpful in regards to this topic. The culture between the U.S. and the Germany is not that much different, but that is because a lot of people in the U.S. are descendants from centennial Europe and Germany. The sources I used for my research further elaborated on the differences between these two particular cultures.
